Minor, albeit frustrating, setback and plugging along

On Thursday, I thought it would be a great idea to tackle installing my new desk on my own. It's a more open space for my workstation not only for my day job, but also just in general as far as desks go.

This didn't go as planned. The actual putting together of the desk went fine. But hauling out the old one resulted in me herniating a disk in my low back. (Literally lifting a 50lbs desk 2 inches to clear a carpet edge, wtf). I went throughout Thursday without much of an issue other than some minor discomfort, but Friday morning I was completely crippled. We had to get the crutches from the garage that we keep for emergencies (because renting crutches is for rich people, haha), and I've been using them ever since. It has basically put me out of commission from sitting at the brand spankin' new desk I just set up all weekend, unless I heavily dose myself with muscle relaxants, which make me sleepy.

I used this time away from my desk to... well, work on my chromebook, haha. There is no rest for the wickedly inspired. I finalized scripts, redid a few things, rehashed some development stuff, basically anything I could do from a lil' ol' laptop.

To top it off, when I finally caught my second wind last night, and was able to do some actual dev work, I put about 6 hours into the new menu... only for Unity to APPARENTLY CRASH WHILE IT WAS SAVING? Because all of my files and saved work was completely gone. (And yes, I did check everywhere on my computer for the files, including the recycling bin, and using recovery software to try and find any recently deleted or changed files, I live in a house filled with IT people and this is the first thing we did, it didn't help). So we set up a backup for the backup, and I guess I'll have to redo EVERYTHING again.

While I was working on the menu before I apparently bet it all and lost it all, I did discover that there was an issue with some of the "build-a-bod" stuff that had to be fixed so it didn't look weird, so I'll be spending the next few days remaking some assets and then trying again with the menu. Hopefully Unity doesn't stick its fingers in my eyes again.

At this point, the demo will likely be releasable by March-April, granted I'm not served up another cold plate of MISERY that sets me back again! I would have been showing screen shots here of our awesome menu and build-a-bod, but Mon-Fri I'm at the day job, and haven't found the time yet today to rebuild even a portion of it, so we'll be doing another dev-log when we're able to provide some of that!

We do also currently have a BTVA page set up for voice acting auditions. The game is at least 3/4's voice acted, with the option to have it turned off if you so chose. Right now, this work is considered volunteer, however we are considering setting up a crowd-funder, which, if it makes a certain percentage, means any VA work goes from volunteer to paid over night. That's exciting, but we're realistic with our expectations that just because we think our game is awesome, doesn't mean it will garner the notoriety or popularity that a lot of other games out there get! So maybe show your love, favorite the game/add it to your collection, or come back and visit us once in a while!
