Renovations & a Teaser!


Making a game is like getting your house renovated. The contractor says 6 weeks, but what it ends up being is 3 months. That's... frustrating.


The voice actor I cast for 2 weeks ago was last seen about 1-2 weeks after I contacted him about being cast. If I'm being honest, I'm pretty freaking mad about that. I understand that it's a free resource, people get busy or things come up, but I've had a near perfect track record with BTVA for voice talent for other projects, and this is just frustrating as all heck. 1 voice actor turned in their lines 3 days after I gave them to her. Izumi and Mee's voice actors gave me their lines earlier this week after I asked them. Alex's voice actor provided lines weeks ago. So everything else is done except some minor tweaks I've noticed during some recent play tests, and the save/option menus.

If it weren't for the voice actor problem, I'd probably be basically done the demo by now, so saying I'm disappointed is an understatement.


Moving forward:

  1. I need to redo the location art for the lake. I'm not liking the style I used for it.
  2. I need to edit the location art for Alex and Izumi's house - for Alex I need to change something that looks off. For Izumi, his house is... too empty. I need more character haha.
  3. I'm making a teaser for each of the initial 6 characters for the demo to promote the game and give you a glimpse of their story. So far I've done Alex's, which is linked. I've edited and exported Izumi's and the secret characters, and they'll all be put up gradually as I draw closer to the release of the demo.
  4. Every time I think I have a free weekend to do game stuff, I don't. I work this weekend at my soul crushing day job, so hopefully I can find some time to put some effort into the save/options menu.
  5. I've decided that because I'm extra, I'm going to make my own custom "developer" books. I was going to buy individual notebooks for that, but I didn't really have the kind of free cash that would be thrown into customizing a little notebook. So I'm going to buy some binders/rings/book binding materials to make my own little journals to keep track of everything. I thought of using binders too, but again, I wanted as much customization as possible because I'm extra that way. So I've made a title page for every game idea I've currently committed to right now and so far, aside from lacking the materials to properly turn it into a little book/notebook (because I haven't ordered them yet haha) it's going well.
  6. I don't want to put everything together until I have the last little bit of vocals I need for Mee's character, as well as the lines for Onny and Rey. So I'm holding off on testing functionality between coding and events until I have the lines for the remaining voice actors.
  7. I do still have audio work to do, you'd think that I'd remember to do that but the answer is a resounding 'no', hahaha.
  8. I got personal issues out the butt. Nothing I need to get into detail with but it's been a rocky few days/weeks with the fiance and day job. Emotions are running on negativity these days, and I seem to only be able to make my way through the day out of sheer spite. Or love of food, not sure which is stronger/more important to me at this point.

These lists get shorter. Which is nice. I'm tired. See you in another 10-20 days haha.
