August 1 - 22 :The Future!


I'm going to adopt the same format I decided to take on for my game jam project, so if anyone's wondering why the sudden format shift - that's why, haha.

  • August 1
    • It's really upsetting to get home from a long trip to find out my favorite place to pillage for voice talent is being closed down after like 10+ years. I have no idea where I'm going to go to find high quality talent to snatch on a shoestring budget. BTVA (Behind the Voice Actors) is shutting down it's Casting Call section of the website because apparently it's underdeveloped and non-sustainable after 10 years of existing. I'm not sure what there is to sustain, but it seemed to be doing well on it's own. Obviously I'm not the owner of the site, so I can't say with any certainty that I understand what it's like to run something like that, but it's still tragic. It's really cool to be apart of a community (because I was and am apart of the voice acting community for the most part) where you can provide your talent with little to no cost. I've done it it. I'll continue to do it. I just don't know where. I know a few websites that are super shady, and really don't want to have to make MORE accounts just to HOPEFULLY find additional voice talent for my characters.
    • That being said, Reynash has had almost no interest for voice talent for a while. I really am not sure why. My assumption is that the character is Indian, and people think he sounds Indian. But... he doesn't. I specifically put that he was born in North America, implying that he doesn't have an accent and I didn't ask for an accent to be included in the audition. So I'm just not sure how 4 other characters can have 4+ auditions, and he barely got 2. So a good friend of mine is doing his voice talent and in the meantime I'll be looking for another place to find people willing to provide their talent and time for my project while pondering the mysteries of Reynash's lack of voice talent attention haha.
    • As a post script - please understand - I know time is money, and I shouldn't expect people to work for nothing. But I'm not being paid anything to make this, and my day job goes towards paying my rent haha. Whatever time people can donate to helping me out will always be appreciated and reciprocated with anything I can provide. If that's money, a copy of the work, or nothing at all, I'll always do my best
    • I haven't been as active with RH because I joined the Yaoi Game Jam 2021 for another project idea I had. With things lagging behind because of lack of interest with Reynash's lines, I was eager to exercise my skills with a different project temporarily. The Yaoi Game Jam is up in just under a month and I'm well on my way with that. Once it's complete and submitted, I'll be turning my focus back to Rainbow Heartbeats to churn out the demo, and then when that's done, I'll begin the other characters/sections of the game. I'll also probably run through the music to revamp those as well but what I have now works, so doing that is more of an afterthought rather than something I intend to do immediately.
    • After that, it's on to the next project, which I already have in development as well. It's not active development, mostly just concept art, story outlines, and a rough idea of how I want the game to work. It will be a full fledged 3D game in Unity, rather than a mock-up of a visual novel with Fungus. Although Fungus has its uses, so I might still use it with future projects, even if they aren't story/visual novel based haha.
    • Based on how I'm going currently, I should be done the game jam project by mid August, which means getting back to work with RH. I'm still excited for it, just bummed out with the voice actor and BTVA thing. I just need to crack down to get everything else completed!
  • August 20
    • What a better day to get back to deving for RH than a Friday! Friday food night for my family, stay up late, swapping manly stories, and in the morning... I might just make waffles.
    • It's been 2 months since I opened this project. I have no idea where to start hahahahaha.
    • Decided to work on moving the menu to its own scene in order to make transitions between the main menu and the main game easier.
  • August 21
    • Finished moving the menu and implementing interactivity, and sounds.
    • Also ran through and deleted some random script files that I'd made when the game had been initially created but that I haven't used ever due to finding different ways to handle the script.
    • Went through and cleaned up some assets. I had too many kicking around from old builds/versions, so I did away with those.
  • August 22
    • Just doing some minor stuff today because I'm taking it easy.
    • Finished up main menu functionality. Made prefab of options menu so I can keep its design consistent across the main menu and main game.
    • Opened up the main scene to do some tidying. Adjusted resolution settings and resized the assets to accommodate this.
    • Going to redesign the time/day/money UI box. It takes up too much space at the top of the screen and I'd like something that's a little sleeker looking. I don't know if I'll get to this today, but I'll make some sketches to see what I like best
