April's State of Being

March was... interesting to say the least. I wish I had done more. April I feel will be no different, because unfortunately I have a big personal matter to attend to mid-month, so I hope the stress of that doesn't have me keeling over.

At any rate, here's to spring and hopefully a better year going forward!

  • As of midnight on April 2 (so technically April 3?) I finished the final drafts of all of the love interests. I debated taking Sunday off to rest and recoup, but I think I'll work on the side characters and any remaining animal characters because I want to keep up the momentum. I'm not pushing myself past my limits just yet, but I'd like to cash in on the inspiration and drive to complete things while I still have it. If any of you have followed me at all over the past couple devlogs, you know that motivation to actually do the task seriously influences whether or not I get it done. Sometimes I can force it for small tasks. Most of the time it's not happening haha.
  • After that's done, there's about 35 location arts that need to be completed, not including the variations for seasons/holiday/time of day. That'll take about triple the time than it took to complete the character art. I could probably complete 2-3 per week, but at that rate, it'll take me about 2.5-3 months to complete them.
  • After all the art is completed, the rest is simply implementation and coding, with minor art-bits needed on the side for Sampod icon's, among other things. There will also need to be a revisit for location music, theme music, and more ambience tracks that need to be compiled, but that's 4-5 months into the future at this point. It's just exciting to think about how close I'm getting, you know?
  • On April 7, I finished the last of the side character art, which included 7 rag tag side characters of varying importance, 3 kids (4, if you count the set of twins), 3 dogs, 1 set of parents, and 1 sibling.
  • On April 8 I had a "housekeeping" day. My head has hurt for about a week, most notably due to how I had my Cintiq set up for drawing and art. I've tried to change it to be better for me, but the throbbing hasn't subsided yet, so I'll take a day or two to recover and then try again.
  • Around April 11 I finalized costume ideas for Spook-O-Rama, which is the Halloween festival. I've done away with all other festival outfits for now because quite frankly it's a lot of work and programming that I just don't think is as important as Halloween and Christmas. Gradually, I've moved forward finalizing and completing all other costume/outfit designs for the characters and completed a handful of characters to 100% today.
  • I had to take some time off until the neck pain I've recently inflicted upon myself dissipates, and hopefully when I get back to it, are a little bit smarter about where/how I do my art.
  • By April 23, I am still suffering with neck issues. I've changed my setup to try and decrease the strain but it isn't improving. So in the future I'm going to have to do art development in stages unless I want to be in dialysis before I'm 30, because of all the Tylenol I'm slamming back to deal. I'm still working on doing the last outfits for all love interests, however I'm on the final group, which consists of only the 9 secret characters.
  • Our mid-month stress event went better than expected. Just some family issues that have been a great cause for upset in my family for the past 5-6 years. So I took some time off from the day job to celebrate/recuperate from the negativity and stress haha.
  • Of course, my good luck runs out after exactly 1 big good event happens, in that my misery is stacked upon by my work calling me back into the office as of April 27. The reason doesn't matter, and actually saying it out loud would make me sound like I'm whining about it, but put simply, it's unnecessary, and I'm looking for another job. Me and two of my coworkers have been gaslit, and abused by this job for 2 years and it's extremely frustrating because none of us can afford to quit. I hope that changes soon.
  • Made a second trailer (that I like more to be honest) and did a write up of a potential crowd funding page. I submitted to Kickstarter for review, so hopefully that get's done soon.

Because I go back into the office this week, I don't think I'll be getting much done for the rest of April, so I'll be posting this right after I'm done writing it. C'est la vie, hm?
