A week of Small Changes!

  • August 4
    • Okay, I'll admit it. I've been listening to "Stay" by The Kid LAROI and JB on repeat for what feels like a week. It's just... so good. As much as I don't like prominent swears in songs because I feel like there should always be another way to get across strong emotion, it's just such a freaking banger. Not gonna stop anytime soon either most likely hahaha. Can't stop won't stop.
    • I decided to start my day and chose violence. I picked a horror movie, and started coding the number puzzle for the forest section.
    • It's amazing how much you forget when you don't do it. I have been making a bunch of rookie coding errors because it's been so long since I touched programming for my scripts haha. A lot of what I'm working on for Rainbow Heartbeats is copy and paste with changing some values to make it individual for each character.
    • Today ended up being a very bad day at my day job. I got nothing done because I spent the majority of my day just being upset. A friend of mine from the States ordered my household some dinner, which was really nice, but I mostly gave up on getting anything else accomplished. My son also may have sprained/broken his ankle. We don't know yet but we'll be keeping an eye on it for now.

    • So due to small children hurting themselves, I didn't get to work on anything this morning. I'm going to try for the afternoon and see if I can slip in some development when it's slower at work, but that's a big if. The rock puzzle/combination puzzle is turning out to be taking me a lot longer because there are no simple solutions for easy coding on how to get it to work, so I'm literally just making it up as I go and hoping it works out haha.
    • So, like 1 hour after I made the above comment I figured out my script. It... includes about 9 additional script files that are likely unnecessary but when I took to Youtube and Unity Forums for aid there wasn't really much to give that actually helped me understand what I was trying to accomplish. So the code is clunky, too long, and its 150+ lines could probably be cut down to like, 6, but it works and that's all that matters. I'm not a genius, but I am a problem solver, and even if it's not the most efficient solution, it's a solution.

    • Here comes Fridayyyyyy, hello Fridayyyy, welcome.... there Friday issssss. Friday. The best day. A good boi.
    • I got my lines for one of the side characters yesterday, but with the leg stuff going on with my son, I didn't have time to edit them. So I'll be doing that this morning.
    • We confirmed my son broke both his tibia. We thought it was just a sprain because there was no swelling or discoloring and based on how he got it it just didn't seem reasonable to assume that he'd broken anything. He's going to the children's hospital tonight and then I'll be caring for him over the weekend so it doesn't look like I'll be able to meet my previous deadline for getting some of the more major programming done by the end of the week but with 3 weeks left of the jam, I'm not worried about completing it on time. If he isn't back from the hospital by the time I'm done work today, I'll dev until he get's home and then I'll be taking a break until I get some free time.

    • The Motrin is doing a better job than the adult Tylenol (we gave him a single adult Tylenol pill for the pain and to help him sleep, relax, don't @ me haha) for keeping the pain at bay for my son's leg, so today I've peeled away while he plays Fortnite to do some programming.
    • To simplify some things, I did have to readjust some of Danny's sprites, specifically for the ending and the hospital area. They were too big and moving them around with Fungus' dialogue feature moved the position too much for all the other sprites that were used.
    • I had an epiphany on the gimmick I set up for the main menu that I realized I did completely inefficiently so I fixed that to make it simpler haha because I always have to make stuff harder for myself initially.
    • Yaaay. I finally got my lines for the last character. They were edited and implemented as soon as I had them.
    • I should be done major programming today. I overestimated how much I had left to do. Playtesting will be the hardest part because it takes the longest. So I'll likely move on to that later today and then might be able to get a good build of the game set up by either the end of tomorrow, or sometime mid-week!
    • I went through to normalize the vocal lines, sound effects, ambience tracks, and music tracks, so the sound could be more level. I could have/should have done this when I first edited and implemented them, but I was eager to get a build out so I skipped it. I also opened up all the music tracks to trim them down a little better so they would loop a little cleaner. Only time and lots and lots of testing will tell if this works or if I have to do something else to keep the loops clean.
    • Unsurprisingly, I've finished about 90% of major programming at this point. Up next is a simple save system, and basic options menu for resolution and possibly sound adjustments, and then all major programming is done and all that'll be needed is extensive play testing.
  • August 8
    • It's 9:30pm at the time of writing this on a Sunday, because it's the first time today I've been able to sit at my computer. Having a life outside of your hobbies is difficult!
    • My dumb ass was sitting here trying to figure out how I could use Fungus' built in save/load system with the menu buttons I've created because the save menu that Fungus has is it's own thing. Then I realized I could just add the script that Fungus' load button calls when you click it and attach it to my buttons and I'm embarrassed that my brain does this to me sometimes. Does anyone else relate or am I really just this inept and it actually is a miracle that I've lived this long hahahaha.
    • Seeing my Trello board so close to being finished with all the tasks I have is exciting. My other project Rainbow Heartbeats has so many to do hahaha.
